Who are we?

NOTC STAFF

Sarah Illingworth, MA, Executive Director

sarah@newoutlookteencenter.org

Formerly a “Jersey girl”, Sarah moved from the Garden State to Maine when she was 12.  After completing high school in York, ME, Sarah ended up at Tufts University, where she graduated with a B.A. in International Relations. One thing led to another and Sarah found herself living in Guinea, West Africa, where she worked with an organization to improve the quality of primary school education.  After almost a year in Guinea, Sarah was hooked on travel and in love with Africa. Since then, her work and travels have brought her to South Africa, Cameroon, Uganda, and most recently, Ghana, where she worked as the in-country coordinator for a youth volunteer program. In 2003, Sarah earned a Masters degree in International Educational Development from Columbia University.  Sarah is thrilled to be the E.D. for New Outlook and feels she has found her niche. She is deeply committed to working with youth and to building community networks that support youth services. Sarah’s favorite things about NOTC include: the laid back, friendly vibe, the unique skills, talents, and personalities of participating teens, the amazing, hard-working staff, and the fantastic kitchen- a great place to hang out, eat good food, and catch up.

James Reinhold, BA, Program Director

james@newoutlookteencenter.org

James grew up in Boston, but traveled all over the US working seasonal outdoor jobs, including white water rafting in California, leading hikes in the Colorado Rocky Mountains and working at the Hard Rock Café in Maui. He graduated from Prescott College, in Arizona, with a double major in Environmental Education & Human Development with an emphasis in Eco-Psychology. Most recently, James comes to New Outlook from Downeast Maine where he was the Camp Director for Camp Peregrine, a small up-start camp for boys.

His passions include anything outdoors, including camping, hiking, canoeing, and photography. His latest passion is Frisbee golf (aka Frolf)!

Community Liaison Whitney Edgar

Whitney Blethen , BA, Community Liaison
whitney@newoutlookteencenter.org
Whitney grew up in the boonies of New Hampshire where mail has actually reached her under the address of "somewhere in the woods of Meredith." She attended the University of New Hampshire and received a BA in Sociology which has turned to a lifelong quest for further understanding and appreciation of different cultures.  Whitney has experience working with youths ranging from local youth diversion programs to a group facilitator with the Friends Forever International Peace Program. She has become an "International Woman of Mystery" from traveling to places like India and Northern Ireland, and hopes to continue her explorations into the future.  Whitney started with NOTC in the summer of 2004 as the Community Liaison, where she works to establish connections between youth and adults, increase overall community investment in and awareness of New Outlook and youth issues. She loves working at NOTC because " the youth here have so much to offer and so much energy!" In her free time she enjoys singing songs to annoy her loved ones (she is constantly told to not quit her day job), spending time with her family, cooking, photography, and exploring where ever her feet will take her!

Angela Haynes, MSW, Prevention Coordinator

angela@newoutlookteencenter.org

Angela grew up in southeastern Vermont, then attended the University of New Hampshire, where she was involved with the President’s Commission on the Status of Women and was named a “Mover and Shaker”. After graduating from UNH with her BA in Women’s Studies in 2002, Angela worked as a photo lab technician for Ritz Camera & Image, where she found that she loved working with people. This, along with her interest in social justice work, led her back to UNH to earn her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree in 2007. Angela has worked with people living with HIV/AIDS in southern Maine. She also has worked on health promotion and prevention projects, including with an after-school program serving elementary school children in Danbury, New Hampshire. Angela's previous position was as the Program Coordinator for Seacoast Outright, a support and advocacy organization for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth in Portsmouth. In her free time, Angela enjoys reading, playing with her two cats and rabbit, gardening, photography and cooking. Angela loves working with NOTC youth and the Exeter community and is excited to begin another school year!

NOTC INTERNS

Becca Richmond - UNH Social Work Intern

Becca was born and raised in Swanzey, NH - a VERY small town near Keene, where there are more cows than people! She is currently a senior at UNH, where she is majoring in social work. Becca loves to be outside and enjoys all of the four seasons that NH has to offer. She spent a semester abroad in London, and got to travel throughout Europe. Her favorite place was Italy, where she got to eat authentic spaghetti and pizza! Her favorite movie is The Little Mermaid. In her free time, Becca likes to go hiking, camping, swimming and loves to be with her family and friends.

Janet Barber - UNH Social Work Intern

Janet grew up right outside Boston in Medford, Massachusetts. She loves being so close to the city because she can easily take a train into Boston where she can shop and eat lots of good food. Janet left the city to study social work at the University of New Hampshire where she is currently a senior and never wants to graduate. She spent the past semester in Florence, Italy and loved everything about it especially all the traveling she got to do but misses the pizza very much. Janet loves running outside and hanging out with her friends.

Emily Lusenhop - UNH Women's Studies Intern

Somewhat new to the East Coast, Emily grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and her family now resides in the country north of the city. Wanting to get out of the Midwest for a bit, Emily decided to attend UNH and is now majoring in Women?s Studies with a minor in Environmental Conservation. In addition, she is currently a teaching assistant for American Sign Language at UNH and is preparing to get her master?s in Social Work. After attending and working at a YMCA summer camp in Northern Michigan, Emily is eager to begin working with the amazing youth at NTOC. Emily?s most rewarding experience in life so far has been co-leading a backpacking, sea kayaking, and hiking trip in Southeast Alaska during 2007. Emily is passionate about diversity and improving the lives of at risk women, in addition to being interested in photography, nature, and art.
